Bear Hunt

One of my favourite books is We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen with illustrations by Helen Oxenbury.

It’ a lot of fun to act out the story. Using the words over, under, around, through and then doing these actions, is wonderful for children’s development of spatial awareness and where they fit into the world.

If you have the book, take it with you to your local park or even your backyard – find some grass (swishy swashy), a puddle of water or from the hose (splash splosh), some mud (squelch squerch), some trees (stumble trip), leaves for the snow (hoo woo), a cubby for the cave and of course – a teddy bear.

Why do you think the bear was chasing the family? Was it a scary bear or a friendly bear?

This book is a terrific story about searching for a Dragon, but on every page, there are many dragons for us to find. Can you find them with me? Where’s the Dragon by Jason Hook, illustrations by Rich

It’s a lot of fun to draw maps. You can make a map of anywhere! All you need is some paper, a clipboard (or hard book to lean on), and texta / pencil / crayon. Start of in your backyard – have a look
